Our Only Authority: The Bible
The Christadelphians believe the Bible is God’s only authority on earth. Emphasis is given to “studying” and “reading” (1 Timothy 4:13). No other authority is acknowledged. All teachings are held up to the scrutiny of the word of God according to to the practice of the first century community (Acts 17:11, 1 John 4:1).
Fundamental Hope
The Christadelphians firmly anticipate the return of Jesus Christ physically to the earth to establish the kingdom of God (Acts 1:6; 11). He will physically raise the dead who have remained unconscious to this point (1 Thes 4:16). He will build a temple for his father in Jerusalem (2 Sam 2:13) where he will reign for 1,000 years over all mankind (Luke 1:33; Rev 20:6; Dan 2:44). This will bring about the redemption of all mankind as the planet is brought under the righteous rule of Christ and his saints.
Family Life
Christadelphian families strive to read the Bible daily, following a daily reading planner. Moral guidelines found in the Bible are used to shape family and individual activities.
Worship and Bible Study
Following the spirit of Hebrews 10:25, Christadelphians endeavor to meet around God’s word several times during the week. Sunday school is held every Sunday morning at 9:30am where Bible lessons are taught to both children, teenagers and adults. A memorial (remembrance) meeting following the pattern laid out by Christ and emphasized by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 11 is held at 11:00am. An evening lecture is held Wednesday nights where the public is invited to join in Bible study on basic doctrinal, moral and prophetic issues. A Bible class is held on Sunday nights for more in depth study of God’s word.
Lay Ministry & Congregations
The Bible instructs us to “buy the truth and sell it not” (Proverbs 23:23), therefore there are no paid ministers in the Christadephian body. Bible studies are lead by experienced individuals who have studied the word of God and prepared classes to share with other members of the congregation and the public.
Each congregation (ecclesia) is formed from Bible believers with who hold to a similar “statement of faith”. The different ecclesias are autonomous and meet with other ecclesias under the same “statement of faith”, in a similar way the apostles met in the first century.
Christadelphian is a biblical Greek word simply meaning “Brethren in Christ”. Christadelphians teach and endeavour to live the gospel or good news that Jesus Christ taught and lived when he walked the earth almost 2000 years ago. By using the Bible as an authority rather than Church teaching and tradition, Christadelphians profess a faith lost by the other churches, a faith the Apostle Paul termed “The Hope of Israel”.
In a Christadelphian meeting you won’t be emotionally pushed into conversion; but encouraged to read and understand the Bible to find a faith based on proven facts.
